The Best Way to Get In Front of A Job Recruiter Without Using LinkedIn

The Best Way to Get In Front of A Job Recruiter Without Using LinkedIn

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you’ll know that I tend to read a lot of articles and books.

Recently while searching for information on jobs and recruiting, I ran across an article about the best times to hunt for jobs. At a site called Career Sidekick.

In a nutshell, here’s the timeline:

January – May = Good

June – August = Bad (Summertime vacations)

September – October = Good

November – December = Bad (It’s the holiday season!)

If I could add one thing to this article, it’s a fact that January through May are the best times for conferences.

In my opinion, one of the best conferences to find an engineering job is the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) conference. I’ve met quite a few people who had received interviews and job offers on the spot at this conference.

At the NSBE conference in 2015, I went to the Apple booth and started chatting with an Apple recruiter. I told him I was “…not interested in anything. I’m just curious…”

After learning about my background, I was invited to Apple’s “networking social” and interviewed for a job opportunity in Mountain View, CA.

So, are you ready for job hunting season now?

If not, here are some articles to help you get started:

Quick Tip: Interviewing = Networking 🙂

If you’re trying to get noticed by a recruiter, you shouldn’t be asking, “How do you get recruiters to find you?” Actually, you should be looking for ways to find recruiters.

The best way to do that is talking to them face to face!

Go out and network at conferences and events. Ditch Linkedin (for a little while) and go talk to a real live person. It can be time consuming, but the payoff is worth it!

Happy job hunting!
